For those that do not know, this movie was originally supposed
to be out last
September, but it was pushed back. Why? Well, let's just say
that airports and
nuclear (that's nu-cle-ar) warheads were a bit of a touchy
subject last September, and
leave it at that. And another "For those that
do not know", this movie is based on a book by the always
funny, Dave Barry.
Having said those, let's get
on to the review.
This is what you call an "ensemble" picture, aka,
lots of known celebrity's
getting together in hopes of winning awards, or to be funny.
This case, it's the latter, but
there's a lot to this film than just funny
fluff. It's has a nice message. About relationships.
Specifically about
fathers and sons.
One of the well known cast members, is Dennis "Don't mess
with me" Farina,
who wants everybody in Miami to know that "they can keep
it". Which,
oddly enough, is the same thing he wanted people in London to
know in "Snatch".
Right to the same exact line, and style of shot. Creepy...or
just plagiarism.
The other stars cast, are Tim Allen, Heavy D, Ben Foster, Rene
Russo, Omar
"the guy who threw himself into the path a train in
ER" Epps, Janeane
Graffalo, Jason Lee, Tom Sizemore, Stanley Tucci, and Patrick
"Elaine's boyfriend"
Warburton.... Oh
yeah, and Andy Richter too. Back
to the similarities to "Snatch". This movie looks
like it was shot and
edited by the same guy who shot and edited "Snatch",
but alas, no. It's
edited by Steven Weisberg (Nurse Betty) , and shot by Greg
Gardiner (Orange
County). So these two must be related or at least friends with
Tim Maurice-Jones and Jon
Harris. Who knows. It's still creepy how "Snatch"-esq
it is.
But still, this is a funny movie. And a good movie. Not a
great film, but a
good popkorn flick. There's some great lines of dialogue and
some hilariously
classic (or classically hilarious) moments from the funny
cast.

I was somewhat disappointed in "Big Trouble", the Barry
Sonnenfeld directed adaptation of the hilarious Dave Barry novel of the
same title. I guess I was expecting something a little more
concrete, plot wise. Don't get me wrong--there are some hilarious
moments in this film, like when a hallucinogenic Stanley Tucci is envisioning
a popular television icon's head on the body of one of the ugliest and
horniest dogs ever captured on screen. And, Dennis Farina was
hilarious as an over-the-hill hit man who really can't stand the Florida
Gators. Tim Allen is perfect as the former Pulitzer Prize winning
columnist, Rene Russo is sexy as Tucci's neglected wife, and Patrick
Warburton shows his naked ass after an anal probe from Andy Richter.
If that's not enough to make you want to see this film, then I don't
know what else to say. Don't go for the plot or substance, but go
for the humor and fast paced directing style. You can tell this is
a Sonnenfeld film. Also, watch for one of the funniest lines in
the film, when the Spanish maid wakes up in Puggy's tree house and
mistakes him for the Messiah. I just about choked on my Twizzlers.
