"Happy Accidents" stars Marisa Tomei (Ruby) and Vincent D'Onofrio (Sam). This is a hard movie to describe but the best I can do is to call it a character indie film from The Twilight Zone.

The story is about a codependent woman, who has never been lucky in love, meets a weird but sweet guy and falls in love with him.  The twist is that the guy confesses to her that he is actually from the future and has time traveled back to 2001 to look for her, from a picture he found in the future.  So, is he telling the truth or is he just nuts?

Despite frequent sessions with her therapist, Ruby is still a dubious judge of character.  Sam moves in after a weeklong courtship, which means that Ruby doesn't discover just how extensive his collection of idiosyncrasies is until after they've set up house.  Suspicions and insecurities mount, and by the time he announces that he's returned from the year 2439 to save her from an untimely death, she's already head-over-heels in love.

This quirky little film delves deeply into our preconceived notions of reality and closely held myths of love.  This movie is very interesting and I enjoyed it. The 2 main performances are very good with some very good supporting characters as well.  Both Tomei and D'Onofrio give very strong performances and while flawed are very likable characters.  However, I did find the film to be overlong (maybe by 15 minutes) and it dragged a bit in the middle.  But it is certainly original and holds your interest to see how it will turn out.

Thoughtful, funny, smart, involving...cute.  "Happy Accidents" lets you think about the universe and fate, all while being happily entertained.  Vincent D'Onofrio shines subtly as a normal guy from 400 years in the future who is chasing after the image of his destiny.  Marisa Tomei is just quirky enough to pull off the role of his confused 1999 girlfriend.  were they meant to be?  How does he know?  Can he convince her?  Can they fulfill fate?  Can they change it?
