I usually like to start a review
with a brief summary of the basic plot, however, with
Pirates of the Caribbean II, I am not quite sure of the
plot. But let me try… I think the undead Davy Jones (an
interesting new character played by Bill Nighy) needs to
collect souls to run his ghost ship so … no.. wait,
that’s not quite right. Let me try again… for some
reason Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) has a magical compass
that….well, no… um… someone needs a heart so the voo doo
princess….but….. there’s this thing with a monkey that
can’t be killed and a jar of dirt and then Orlando
Bloom’s character’s father need to be saved for 100
years of labor as a ghost, so the crew… but.. gosh I
don’t really know what it is about. I could not
understand most of the accents, and even if I could I am
not sure I could follow the story line.
But I loved it.
Yeah that’s right.. I have no clue what was going on
overall, but the film is fast paced, funny, well acted
and has the most realistic and well integrated special
effects I have ever seen. Crazy and fantastic scenes
abound above and below the ocean and they are so well
done I didn’t for a moment think that they were just
effects. So I was totally drawn into their strange
world. I kind of felt like a loyal member of the crew –
following the leads, not quite sure knowing what was
going on, but happily going along with the adventures.
