Okay, I must say that I fully enjoyed the first one.
It's not my favorite type of humor, but sometimes I like to be grossed out.
So, you see, I had to see the sequel. Yeah, what's up with that?
The tagline for the first movie was "no mercy, no shame, no sequels".
The Scary Movie 2 tagline is "no more mercy, no more shame, no more sequels. Honest! We
Lied". Another thing that has always bugged me is that every male Wayan
EXCEPT Damon is associated with Scary Movie 1 + 2. Keenen Ivory directed
them, and Shawn and Marlon co-wrote them, but what about Damon?
Don't you think he could have helped out his brothers and produced the movies?
Anywho, on to the plot. Or lack thereof.
I'm not surprised by the poor plot, it's clear they were rushing to make this movie.
I mean c'mon, a year ago the first one wasn't even out yet!
The characters returning in the sequel are Cindy Cambell (Anna
Faris), Ray Maker (Shawn Wayans), Shorty Meeks (Marlon Wayans), and Brenda Meeks (Regina Hall).
The Baltimore Sun commented that they use the same one-dimensional
characters, but c'mon this is slapstick! Of course they're
one-dimensional! There are some new characters: Buddy (Christopher
Masterson), and Alex (Tori Spelling). Both of whom do a fairly good job
of trying to be funny. They're not great at it, but at least they tried.
There are so many cameo's in this movie. James Woods and Andy Richter
play priests in "The Exorcist" spoof, Natasha Lyonne plays the
possessed girl, Chris Elliot plays a the caretaker in the spoof of
"House on Haunted Hill", and Tim Curry plays the the professor in that spoof.
Overall, the cast is decent.
This movie could have been much better, if they had written a better
story. There's some really funny scenes in here, but there's too many
not-so-funny scenes. I'm not talking about the gross-out stuff though.
The Wayans didn't go too far, but they came awfully close.
It had potential, and wouldn't be successful as an original film, but since the
first one made so much money, this one should also join the $100 million
club.
