I hated the title of this movie, "My Super Ex-Girlfriend", as it so well describes the film's high concept. It is almost as bad as the upcoming film "Snakes on a Plane." Anyway...the title is so explicit that I hardly have to tell you much about it to give you the basic story. Boy meets super girl, boy gets super girl, boy dates super girl, boy breaks up with super girl, super girl gets mad and then the fun begins. OK, interesting enough, but can it carry an entire movie?

As it turns out this almost a perfect movie. It is very funny; has great special effects; a good cast; good dialog; good music; good pace; makes as much sense as possible for a cartoony concept; and has a fresh, clever take on a number of comfortably familiar story lines. It is also a very "tight" movie. By that I mean it seems that every scene, every character, every line of dialog is well used.

Don't get me wrong, this is not a great "film", the dialog is not really compelling, but it is a terrific "movie" for what it is... a light, perfectly executed entertaining comedy. I got my money's worth and had a very good time.

As I was watching it, it reminded me a bit of the first Ghostbusters film, which I also thought was very tight. When I got home and looked up some of the movie facts on www.IMDB.com, I saw that Ivan Rietman, the director of My Super Ex-Girlfriend, actually directed Ghostbusters. I also saw that the writer, Don Payne, was a writer for the Simpsons TV show, a cartoon, but a very well done cartoon. So it all makes sense to me how this could be such well done entertainment with two such pros at the helm and an excellent cast. Like Ghostbusters and The Simpsons, My Super Ex-girlfriend is a classic.
