Watching this movie and it's style made me believe I was at this party taking place and watching the reality of the sad lives of these rich and famous people unfold before me.  The use of a digital camera helped set the mood of the movie and the realistic spontaneity of what was going on.  Even with its many characters and many secrets unfolding during the night, I don't see much comparison of this movie to "The Big Chill".  This one is much more serious and doesn't have nearly the comic humor that the other one did.  There was one scene, the opening of the pool scene with operatic music playing in the background which I thought was marvelous.

The acting in this movie is great.  I always love to watch Jennifer Jason Leigh and she co-wrote it and co-directed it with Alan Cumming who is also very good in this film-- I didn't recognize him but thought I was watching Paul Reubens.  It was interesting to see all these actors sorta playing mirror images of their real selves.  It was also neat to see Leigh and Phoebe Cates as best friends in this movie (just like in "Fast Times at Ridgemont High")

If you like ensemble dramatic films where the movie is totally character driven, then I highly recommend this one.  I thought there were probably too many people at the party to have to figure out, but all the main ones were interesting.
