If you read my "Swordfish" review, I said in it that I like it when I see unknown actors make names for themselves through good performances.  Paul Walker and Jordana Brewster are those unknowns (at least to me).  Vin Diesel is also good.  I first noticed him in "Boiler Room", which he was also good in.  He's really making a name for himself.  Anywho, on to the movie.

"The Fast and The Furious" is loosely based on a magazine article about street gangs that race Japanese cars at night.  The leader of this gang is Domenic Torretto, and the gang is under suspicion of stealing expensive electronic equipment.  Paul Walker plays an undercover cop, known as Brian Spindler, who tries to find out who is stealing the equipment, but like in all these movies, the undercover cops befriends the "bad guys"; he falls for Domenic's younger sister who is played by Jordana Brewster.

This movie is kinda like "Gone In 60 Seconds"; it's about a bunch of twenty-somethings who are into cars, souped-up cars... The only difference is that in "Gone In 60 Seconds", they were stealing cars; here they're racing them.  I liked it better than "Gone In 60 Seconds" though.  The characters were more interesting, and the plot was a little better.  I find car racing more exciting than car stealing, and I enjoyed the movie.  It was a little unrealistic though.  During some of the chase scenes, there are cars being driven underneath trucks.  That's not possible.  Cars aren't that low, and trucks aren't that high.  Other than that, it was a high intensity, fast paced film that shouldn't disappoint.  So, if you like looking at cars, car racing, and car chases, then this movie doesn't disappoint.  If you want a movie that will provoke thought, this isn't for you.
